Young Okla. Farmer Killed by Lightning
WAS ONLY VICTIM OF STORM WHICH STRUCK CORN AND COLONY
Corn, Okla. — Funeral services for Eddie J. Megert, 32, were held at the Corn M.B. church June 13, with Rev. J. P. Kliewer in charge.
The young farmer was fatally injured by a bolt of lightning while at work on his farm near Bessie. He was sitting on the tractor when the bolt struck, and his companion, Wilbur Penner, was knocked unconscious but recovered and helped rush him to the hospital. However, Eddie died without regaining consciousness.
The lightning came from storm clouds which later developed into the tornado that struck the Corn and Colony communities.
Mr. Megert was active in church work, serving as Sunday school superintendent, member of the Bible school board, the Gospel Quartet, and the Gospel team and choir, and also choir director for two years.
He is survived by his wife Orpha and three sons; his mother, Mrs. Eva Megert; three sisters and four brothers.
