Muscular Dystrophy Victim Dies at Berne

Bern, Ind. — David D. Mazelin, a muscular dystrophy sufferer for 60 of his 67 years, died July 22 at the home of his brothers, Ben and Noah Mazelin, near here.

Funeral services were conducted July 24 at the Evangelical Mennonite Church, of which he was a member.

Mr. Mazelin taught school as long as he was able to walk. Although bedfast for more than 20 years, he continued active in various fields of endeavor and his life was an inspiration to many who are able-bodied.

During his long years of confinement, he kept busy with photography and related fields, and in artistic card lettering. People from far and near sought his services in lettering work.

He also read widely in the Bible, in Bible history and secular history. The great-grandson of a pioneer settler here, he was the author-compiler of a 262-page book, "The Mazelins in America — 100 Years." It was published by the Berne Witness Co. in 1940.
