His wife died on Aug. 27, 1913. On Aug. 15, 1915, he was married to Lydia Yoder, daughter of Moses and Fannie (Miller) Yoder. Lydia was the widow of Daniel F. Yoder of Arthur, Ill.

Father had been in failing health due to heart trouble since Jan. 6. On Mar. 8 he went to Thomas hospital and was released march 22. He was improved until June 1 when he suffered another attack and was rushed to the hospital where everything was done that loving hands could do, until he peacefully fell asleep, being conscious to the very end and often expressing his desire to go.

Funeral services were held on June 17 at Elmer Wingards with Bishops John A. Yoder and David Miller preaching in German from John 14 and I Thess. 4, and Alva Swartzentruber in English from Psalms 90.

He was laid to rest beside his first wife in the Amish cemetery.
