Harper, Kan. Youth Dies in Accident

Harper, Kan. — Funeral services for Joseph l. Mast, 19, fatally injured in a one-car accident near here Aug. 15, were conducted Saturday afternoon at the Pleasant Valley Mennonite Church, of which he was a member. Rev. James Detweiler, the pastor, officiated.

The young man and three companions were returning here from Danville, Kan. when Mast's car, being driven by his friend, 15-year-old Doug Henderson, skidded on loose gravel.

All four young people were thrown out. Henderson and Donna Oliver, 17, of Harper escaped with minor injuries. Henderson's cousin, 17-year-old Janet Guttman of Falls Church, Va., suffered a broken shoulder.

The Mast youth was a 1962 graduate of Harper High School. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Levi Mast, and a sister, Fanny, a nursing student at Grace Hospital, Hutchinson.

JOSEPH L. MAST

Joseph L. Mast was born to Levi J. and Elizabeth (Yutzy) Mast at Conway Springs, Kansas on Feb. 15, 1944. He died August 15, 1962 at Harper, Kansas, at 18 years and six months of age. Death came as the result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

Joe had acknowledged and received Jesus Christ as his Saviour. He was baptized and received as a member in the Pleasant Valley Mennonite Church in 1955. He graduated from the Harper High School only this spring, 1962.

Surviving are his father, Levi and mother, Elizabeth, of Harper, and one sister, Fannie, in nurses training at Grace Hospital, Hutchinson, Kansas.

Funeral services were held at Pleasant Valley Church, Harper, on Aug. 18, in charge of the pastor, James Detweiler. Burial was in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
