Teenage Sisters Die In Highway Crash

Harrisonburg, Va. — Double funeral services were conducted at the Bank Mennonite Church near here on Jan. 22 for Naomi Ruth Martin, 19, and Ellen Rebecca Martin, 16, who were fatally injured in a highway crash in Pennsylvania Sunday night, Jan. 19.

The sisters, daughters of Mrs. Ruth (Rhodes) Martin of rural Mt. Crawford, Va., had been on a weekend visit at Messiah Bible School, Carbon Hill, Ohio. They were en route home with 14-year-old Edith Heatwole as a passenger when their Volkswagen went out of control on a patch of ice on Interstate 70. The little auto spun across the median and was hit by an oncoming car. The Heatwole girl was injured but is recovering.

The sisters were members of Pike Mennonite Church. They leave two younger sisters in addition to their mother and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. David Rhodes.
