YOUNG MEN, 19 AND 20 YRS. OF AGE, DIE WHEN CAR STRIKES TREE
Smoketown, Penn. — Funeral services were held at two Lancaster county churches the week of Dec.18 for two county young men who lost their lives in a highway crash near Ephrata Friday evening, Dec. 16.
Services for David Oberholzer, 19, son of David G. and Lydia Landis Oberholzer, were held at the Martindale Mennonite Church with Eugene Landis of Ephrata and Bishop Joseph O. Weaver of New Holland officiating. About 750 relatives and friends attended.
The services for Marvin Martin, 20, son of Amos O. and Annie Landis Martin, took place at the Groffdale Mennonite Church and attendance was over 700.
The youths, who were cousins, were en route home from work when their car failed to make a curve after crossing a small bridge. It struck the left fender of an oncoming car and then crashed into a tree. Both were pronounced dead upon arrival at the Ephrata Community Hospital.
The Oberholzer youth leaves his parents, a brother and three sisters. The Martin youth is survived by two sisters and six brothers, in addition to the parents.
