19-Month-Old Boy Drowns in Creek

Lancaster, Penn. — Funeral services were conducted at the Groffdale Mennonite Church for little John M. Martin, 19-month-old son of Titus H. and Mabel Martin who drowned in Cocalico Creek near Brownstown on May 8.

The child and two brothers and a sister — the oldest less than five years of age — went to the meadow to play. A short time later the older children ran into the house and told their mother that their brother had fallen into the creek. She rushed to the scene and waded into the water up to her neck in a vain effort to find him. After going to the house to call for help, She returned to the creek and finally found the body floating downstream. Artificial respiration was tried, but without result.

Surviving in addition to the parents and children are the grandparents, Titus B. Martins and John N. Martins.
