EDWARD MARTIN

Edward Martin, son of the late Michael and Salome Kempf Martin was born August 2, 1880 at Frytown, Johnson county, Iowa, and died at his home in Wellman, Iowa, on October 31, 1947, at the age of 67 years two months and 29 days.

In his youth he confessed Christ and united with the Mennonite Church, in which faith he died.

0n November 29, 1906, he was united in marriage to Barbara Yoder, daughter of the late Jacob Y. and Anna Swartzendruber Yoder, who survives with her seven children and 16 grandchildren. The children are: Lula Mae, wife of Noah Brenneman of Kalona; William E. and Emerson G., and Amy Leona, wife of Glen White, all of Wellman; Charles C. of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Robert E. of Rock Island, Illinois and Russell Dean of Parnell, Iowa.

Also surviving are two sisters and three brothers, namely: Mrs. John A. Yoder, Mrs. Koras Kinsinger, Elmer and Ernest all of Parnell, and John of Iowa City, besides a host of relatives and friends.

About six months ago he became ill with heart trouble from which he never fully recovered. Very shortly before his death he had a severe attack when only in a matter of hours the end came. At this he was ready to meet his Lord.

In the Sunday School he served as a teacher for a number of years until his health failed. In the church he always filled his place whenever possible and had a deep concern for its spiritual welfare.

Brother Martin will be greatly missed in the home as a husband and father; in the church, as one who was ready to give counsel; in the community, as one who was held in high esteem for his readiness to help in time of need, especially in time of sickness.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Wellman Mennonite church. Rev. Edward Diener of Rosland [sic Roseland], Nebraska and George Miller of Wellman were in charge of the services. Burial was in the West Union cemetery.
