As a nine-year-old girl she went with her parents to live on a farm near Dalhart, Texas, sharing the privations of the dusty 30's with them until 1937, when they returned to Kansas.

She received her schooling in a rural grade school near Inman, Kan. and in another near her home in Texas.

On April 1, 1934 she was baptized upon confession of her faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord, and received into the fellowship of the Plain View Mennonite Church at Texline, Texas by the Rev. This union was blessed with four children: Eugene, Judy, Loren and Donald, all at home.

Mrs. Martens loved the Lord and gave of herself unsparingly in service to her family, to the Sunday school and to the church, or wherever there was opportunity.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 25, at the First Mennonite Church in Halstead with Rev. A. E. Funk officiating. A quartet of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Quiring and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Franz sang “Nearer My God To Thee” and “How Great Thou Art.” Casketbearers were Ernest Mueller, Kenneth Wiens, Nick Wiens, Titus Jost, Don Penner and John Heidebrecht.
