ELIZABETH MARTENS

Elizabeth Martens, daughter of Gerhard and Mary Martens, was born near Inman, Kan. on May 1, 1900, and passed away on Feb. 13, 1962 at 7:30 p.m. near Scio, Oregon. She was involved in an auto accident in which she suffered injuries causing her death.

She grew to womanhood near Inman, Kan., where she also received her education in the Clark School district.

She recognized her need of a Savior in her youth, and upon repentance of her sins, she found forgiveness, being baptized upon confession of her faith on April 6, 1921, becoming a member of the Church of god in Christ Mennonite. She was faithful to her vows to the end.

Our sister took pleasure in helping others in need. In 1940 she spent almost a year in the home of her brother George, who having lost his companion, deeply appreciated the assistance she rendered to the family. When our parents grew old and feeble, she unselfishly helped to ease their failing years. After death of our parents, she did much to maintain the home for us as a family.

She will be especially missed by her sister Kathrine, with whom she shared all her joys and sorrows since our parents' death in 1958. In June of 1960, she and Kathrine moved to Lebanon, Ore. where they were employed in the community general hospital. They made their church home at the nearby Scio, Ore. congregation, where she also took active interest in worship and Sunday school. She took part in our revival recently, and in our communion on Feb. 1. We believe she has gone to be with the Lord, whose death she commemorated.

She leaves to mourn her untimely departure, three sisters and five brothers, Kathrine, Pete and Martha Martens of Scio, Sarah and husband H. D. Ensz of Inman, Kan., Marie and husband Aaron Nikkel of Scott City, Kan., George and Anna Martens of Conway Kan., Ike and Susie Martens of Burns, Kan., John and Clara Martens of Hutchinson, Kan., and Edward and Billie Jean Martens, McPherson, Kan.; 13 nephews and 11 nieces.

Her parents, two sisters, two sisters-in-law, three nieces and one nephew preceded her in death.

The funeral took place Feb. 19, first at a McPherson, Kan. funeral home, for the immediate family, then at 2 p.m. in the Zion Church, Inman, where many of her friends and relatives had gathered. Min. Abe Nikkel, Min. A. R. Toews and Min. Arvid Ensz officiated. She was laid to rest in the nearby cemetery. — The Familhy.
