JACOB HENRY MARTENS

Jacob Henry Martens, son of Jacob and Anna Duerksen Martens, was born 20, 1879, in eRno [sic Reno] County, Kansas, and died Thursday morning, Dec. 6, 1956, in the Park View Hospital at El Reno, Okla., reaching an age of 78 years, eight months and 16 days.

In 1891 he was baptized by Elder Christ. Krehbiel at Halstead, Kansas and became a member of the General Conference Mennonite Church. In 1898 he came to Oklahoma where he worked in several places, including Geary, Corn and Caddo county.

On July 13 1906, he entered the holy estate of matrimony with Mary S. Boese. The wedding took place near Gotebo, Okla. This union was blessed with nine children, of whom two preceded him in death. In 1922 he moved with his afmily [sic] to Geary, living west of Geary on a farm. In 1951 after the death of his son Leland he moved to Hinton where he resided at his death. During the 29 years that the family lived in the vicinity of Geary and in Hinton, father and mother where members of the First Mennonite Church of Geary.

About two weeks ago father became ill and Wednesday evening, Dec. 5, he suffered a stroke and was taken to the El Reno Hospital where he passed away the next morning.

He leaves to mourn his sudden passing his wife Mary Boese Martens; three daughters, Ruth, Mrs. Chasteen, Hilda, Mrs. Tommy Helderman, and Emma, Mrs. Frank Helderman, all of Hinton, Okla.; four sons, Irven of Paramount, Calif., Alvin of Ardmore, Okla., Eldon of Springdale, Ark., Jake of Jetmore, Kans.; 16 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Beaman, Siloam Springs, Ark., and Mrs. Sarah Peterman, Bearden, Ark.; one brother, William martens of Harrison, Ark., besides a host of other relatives and friends.

We mourn, but not as those who have ho hope. Father now sees the fulfillment of his faith here on earth. some day we shall meet again.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Henry Hege, and interment was made in the Hinton cemetery where the son Leland is buried also. — The Family.
