HENRY A. MARTENS FUNERAL AT BUHLER M. B. CHURCH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON

At Buhler the Mennonite Brethren church was filled to capacity Wednesday afternoon for the funeral of Henry A. Martens, prominent banker and business man of the city, who died Saturday evening, August 11, at Grace hospital in Hutchinson after an illness of about six weeks.

A number of Newton friends and relatives, as well as representatives of the Midland Mutual Fire Insurance Co. here, of which Mr. Martens was a director and former president, attended the services at Buhler.

Mr. Martens was born in Buhler May 9, 1885, and had spent nearly 40 years in business there. He became ill while on a trip through Canada and the northern states, made in the interest of the educational and mission funds of the Mennonite Brethren conference. He entered the Grace hospital on July 22 and underwent a major operation about three weeks ago.

The funeral services were in charge of Rev. C. E. Fast and Dr. P. B. Lange of Hillsboro.

Members of the immediate family surviving are his wife, three daughters, Mrs. George E. Franz, Buhler, Mrs. Joe Medaker, Sylvia, and Miss Loretta Martens, of the home; one son, Otto, Hutchinson; three brothers, Dave of Buhler; Paul of Burrton; and Dan, Amarillo, Tex.; five sisters, Mrs. John Schroeder, Goessel; Mrs. B. W. Fehdrau, Buhler; Mrs. J. P. Sawatzky, Buhler; Mrs. D. H. Dick, Buhler, and Mrs. J. M. Bartel, Hutchinson.
