MRS. ELIZABETH MARTENS

(Mrs.) Elizabeth Martens, a resident of the Menno Home in Abbotsford, B.C., passed away on February 28, 1978. She was born on March 23, 1895 in Blumstein, Russia to Cornelius and Katherina Kroeker. Her parents moved to Khartch, Terek, where she received her education. At an early age she received Christ as her personal Saviour, and in 1910 was baptized and joined the Mennonite Brethren Church.

On September 3, 1922 she married Peter Martens. They emigrated to Canada in 1925 with two small daughters, and settled at Alexander, Manitoba. Here two daughters and a son were added to the family. In 1957, after the death of her husband, Mrs. Martens moved to Winnipeg and joined the Elmwood Mennonite Brethren Church, where she experienced many blessings. After an illness and many months of hospital care in 1974, she went to live with her children in Richmond, B.C., Lillian and Abe Thiessen. When more care was required, she moved to the Menno Home, her final home.

Mrs. Martens was predeceased by her beloved husband, two daughters, Margaret and Alvina, one granddaughter and a son-in-law. Left to mourn are her children, Kaye and Jake Krueger, (Mrs.) Lillian Thiessen, and Shirley and Pete Martens; her beloved grandchildren; and many relatives and friends.
