William Luginbill.

William Luginbill, the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel P. Luginbill, was born in Garden Township, Harvey County, Kansas, July 1st 1884. He grew to manhood in the vicinity of Moundridge, Kansas. He was married to Ida Unruh on March 5th, 1900. Having shared the joys and sorrows of married life for 19 years, 9 months an 23 days. To this union six children were born, 4 daughters and 2 sons, Della Mae, Geneva Esther, Helen Barbara, Margaret Louise, Eldon Irl [sic Earl] and James Samuel. Upon his faith in Christ and wishes to become a follower of his savior he was baptized in the year 19154 at Moundridge, Kansas, by Rev. Sands, then pastor of the Evangelical Church of which he became a member.

On Friday morning December 28, 1928 he went out to shell corn and after finishing the job of shelling he came home shortly after 4 o'clock P. M. and wished to go to Halstead, coming from the west to the Main Street turning south there was a train facing west, which he evidentally [sic] watched, there being a flagman at the crossing who signaled him to stop, but it seems as though he wanted him to stop on account of the west bound train, and was not aware of the fast approaching train No. 20 from the west, which his [sic] his car and caused his death instantly. He reached the age of 44 years 5 months and 27 days. He leaves to mourn his sudden departure his wife and children, Mother, 2 brothers, 5 sisters Mr. Wm. Briar, Mrs. B. J. Cushing, and Arnold of Newton, Adolph of Burrton, Mrs. H. E. Smith of Hutchinson. Mrs. A. G. Ratzlaff of Buhler, Mrs. Joe Holdeman of Moundridge. A host of relatives and friends. His father and one sister preceded him to the Great Beyond.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, December 31 at the Halstead Funeral Home conducted by Rev. F. H. Wenger and Rev. E. M. Yost. Interment was made in the Halstead Cemetery. — Moudrige Journal.
