• Four Wichita residents died late Saturday evening when a twin-engine Beechcraft plane plummeted to earth and burned in a milo field on the R. J. Franz farm southeast of McLain. Killed were Robert Lomax, 37, former Wichita attorney; his daughter Susan, 12; Robert McFarland, a flight instructor for a Wichita flying service; and Wm. Gooch of Koch Engineering Co. It is believed Mr. Lomax was taking instruction when the crash occurred. Only minutes before, the aircraft had touched down for a practice landing at the Newton airport.
