— Funeral services were held at the Hebron church near Buhler last Saturday afternoon for Mrs. Katherine Regier Lohrentz, pioneer resident of the Moundridge community who passed away at Halstead hospital April 20 after a long illness. She was 81, and leaves two daughters, Anna and Mary Lohrentz, three sons, Jacob R., Peter, and John, all of Moundridge and a step-daughter, Mrs, Elizabeth Regier of Goessel.

MRS. KATHARINA LOHRENTZ

Katharina Lohrentz, oldest daughter of Jacob and Katharina Regier, was born on May 14, 1863 [sic 1868], in South Russia, and passed away at the Halstead, Kans. hospital on the evening of April 20, 1949, at the age of 81 years, 15 months and six days.

She often referred to the experience, when at the age of eight years, in 1875, her parents, young brothesr [sic], sisters and other relatives came to America from South Russia and settled in Harvey county, Kansas, nine miles southwest of Moundridge. Here she shared some of the experiences of the early settlers in establishing a home in a new country. In the immediate community she lived the remainder of her life.

She was baptized upon her confession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior by the Rev. Bernhard Buhler, and was received into the membership of the Hebron church. She remained a faithful member of the church until her death.

In 1890 she was married to Peter Lohrentz. To this union were born three sons and three daughters. This union was terminated by the father's death in 1924, having lived in holy wedlock for 34 years.

She leaves to mourn her departure two daughters, Anna R. and Mary R.; three sons, Jacob R., Peter R., and John A.; one daughter-in-law, Emma Lohrentz; five grandchildren; one step-daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Regier of Goessel, Kans.; two sisters, Sarah Regier and Helena Franz of Buhler, Kansas; two brothers, Abe R. Regier of Hesston and John R. of Moundridge; and many other relatives and friends. One daughter Katherine preceded her in death in 1941.

She enjoyed fairly good health until she took sick in 1936. She gradually lost strength and finally became an invalid, being confined to her bed and wheel chair. Hands that had labored so willingly through the years ceased to work. No longer could she attend the church she dearly loved. Nevertheless her concern in the spiritual, in the welfare of others, and in the interest taken in the things about her were a constant inspiration to those near her.

She suffered much and often it seemed as though the angel of death was hovering near. As the years went by, other complications developed and she became nearly helpless. On April 12 she became sick with pneumonia. For several days she responded to the doctor's treatments, but since her body lacked resistance she gradually became worse. In her last hours of suffering, while she was fully conscious, she requested that prayer be offered for her, and what a consolation to those who were near when she repeated a hymn as her prayer, giving us the full assurance of her faith in the Lord and Master. She finally lapsed into a coma and lingered on for two more days. The end was peaceful.

Since mother was ill, we were more closely attached to her. We will greatly miss her and the home will never be the same. We are grieved at her going, yet glad that she was ready to answer the call of her Master and be relieved from the suffering of the body which lingered with her. — The Family
