HANS LOEWEN

Hans Loewen of Abbotsford,B.C. passed away Dec. 2. He was born Sept. 9, 1937 to Peter and Anna Loewen in Schonau No. 17, Felnheim Colony, Chaco, Paraguay. He dedicated his life to the Lord at age 9. At 16 he was baptized and joined the MB church. He later moved to Uruguay, where he lived in a missions home in Montevideo. He helped the church in music and youth activities. Here he met and later married Lenchen Dueck. After several years they moved to Filadelphia, Paraguay, where he worked as a photographer. He also served the Lord with music and singing and for some years directed the choir. In 1969 they moved to Canada. Culloden MB Church in Vancouver became their spiritual home, and he again served through singing. In 1976 cancer was found in one eye, but after 4 surgeries and many prayers he recovered. In 1980 they moved to Clearbrook, B.C., joining East Aldergrove MB Church. In 1985 he was hired by Columbia Kitchen Cabinets. On Dec. 18, 1989 he experienced severe pain, which was later diagnosed as cancer of the spine. After difficult hours and many struggles, the Lord enabled him to accept that he must go. He is mourned by his wife Helene; his father; children Brun Sawatzky, Monika Thiessen, Grace and Randy; 5 grandchildren; 4 brothers and 1 sister. The funeral was Dec. 6 in East Aldergrove MB Church, with Jacob Neufeld ministering.
