ELIZABETH LOEWEN

Elizabeth Loewen of Abbotsford, B.C. passed away Aug. 11. She was born Mar. 12, 1899 to Gerhard and Helena Sukkau in Kleefeld, southern Russia. Her mother died when she was an infant. Her father married Elizabeth Hiebert and settled in No.3, Terek, then moved to Lavarov. She accepted Christ at an early age, was baptized May 8, 1916 and joined the Evangelical Mennonite Brethren Church. She met Jacob Loewen while he was on sick leave from the military; they married in 1923. In 1926 they immigrated to Coaldale, Alta. , where they joined the MB church. Through the difficult depression years she made her home comfortable, and was appreciated by many for her baking and cooking. In her quiet way, she went about her duties. In 1939 they moved to Yarrow, B.C. Jacob died in 1963. For the past 7 years she has lived in Menno Hospital. Predeceased by her husband, 1 sister and 1 brother, she is mourned by daughter Helen; 2 sisters and 1 brother. The funeral was Aug. 15 in Yarrow MB Church, with Ron Braun and Lloyd Pankratz ministering.
