text of obituary:

MRS. HENRY J. LOEWEN

Lena Lehrman Loewen, daughter of Heinrich and Susanna Voth Lehrman, was born near Goessel in Marion county, Kansas, August 7, 1885. She lived her entire life in Marion and Harvey counties.

She attended the rural schools of Marion county and studied one year at the Bethel College academy in North Newton.

On May 22, 1904, she was baptized upon her confession of faith by the late Elder Peter Balzer and was received into the membership of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite church. In 1910 she transferred her membership to the Hillsboro Mennonite church. When she and her husband moved to Goessel in 1914, her membership was again placed in the Alexanderwohl Mennonite church. When the Goessel Mennonite church was organized in 1920, she was among the charter members to join that church. She was a faithful and devoted servant of our Saviour throughout her life.

On November 22, 1907, she was united in marriage with Henry Jacob Loewen in the Alexanderwohl Mennonite church by Rev. Peter Buller.

Three sons were born to this union: Walter R., now living in Wichita, Harold H., in Chicago, and Wilbert L., in Kansas City, Missouri.

Mrs. Loewen was a kind and loving mother. She did everything possible for the comfort and well being of her family. She was a loyal companion to her husband and a help to him in his work.

For several years her health had been failing and her sudden death at 5:20 p.m. Sunday, April 29, was a shock to her loved ones but was not unexpected. The immediate cause of her death was a heart attack.

There were times of disappointment and loneliness, but Mrs. Loewen achieved much joy and happiness in thinking about and caring for her two grandchildren.

It was a great shock for Mrs. Loewen when her sister, Mrs. H. J. Brandt, passed to her reward about a year ago. Mrs. Loewen was also preceded in death by one brother, Anton, and by her parents.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Henry, her three sons, and two grandchildren; seven brothers and sisters, Mrs. Gerhard Schmidt of Goessel, Henry H. Lehrman of Aberdeen, Idaho, John V. Lehrman of Brooks, Oregon, Mrs. Albert Unruh of North Newton, William V. Lehrman and Mrs. Albert Schmidt of Newton, and Theodore C. Lehrman of Goessel; also a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, May 3, with a brief service at the Bergen funeral home conducted by Rev. P. A. Wedel followed by services at the Goessel Mennonite church in charge of Rev. P. P. Buller and Rev. Orlin Frey.
