KANSAS Jacob L. Loewen

Jacob L. Loewen, was born August 23, 1842, in the village of Hirschau, South Russia. He spent his youth with his parents in Hirschau where he also received his elementary education.

From there the parents and children moved to the Crimea. In the year 1866, on October 28, he was married to Helena Unruh. this, his first wedlock, was blessed with 13 children of whom three died during childhood. In the year 1874 he migrated with his wife and family to America settling at Parker, south Dakota, where he endured the hardships and toil connected with a new settlement.

1879 on May 25, he was baptized by Elder Heinrich Adrian and received into fellowship of the Mennonite brethren Church whose faithful member he remained until his death. In the year 1902 he moved to Bruderfeld, near Waldheim, Saskatchewan, Canada. In 1907 another change was made, this time to Buhler, Kansas, and in 1909 from Buhler to Hillsboro where he has resided until he was called away through death.

After living together for 43 years, five months and 4 days his first mate was taken from him through death on March 3, 1916. On August 18, 1910 e entered into Holy matrimony a second time, marrying sister and widow Cornelius Duerksen. This second bond of matrimony lasted 20 years, 5 months, 14 days.

He lived to an age of 88 years, 5 months and 10 days. Mourning over his death are his wife, four sons, six daughters, six sons-in-law, four daughters-in-law, 63 grandchildren of whom 11 have died, 60 great-grandchildren of whom seven have died, three brothers, one sister, one brother-in-law, three sister-in-law and many friends and acquaintances.
