JACOB JOHN LOEWEN

My husband and our father, Jacob John Loewen, was born in Russia on Jan. 6, 1901, the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. John Loewen.

His childhood and youth were spent in the village of New Samara. On Feb. 12, 1920, we were united in holy matrimony. The Lord abundantly blessed our married life with His presence. He gave us many days of rejoicing but led us faithfully also in days of trial and affliction. He has never failed us or forsaken us.

In 1923 Jake and I both trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as our personal Saviour during a Week of Prayer. During the summer of the same year we followed the Lord in obedience of baptism, identifying ourselves with Him in his death, burial and resurrection. We were received into the fellowship of the Mennonite Brethren Church.

The Lord blessed our home with 11 children, two of whom preceded him in death during early childhood. Of the nine that are alive eight are married, and there are 16 grandchildren. These were a great joy to their grandfather's heart.

We were privileged of the Lord to leave Russia in 1924 to come to Canada. We lived in Saskatchewan for a number of years and in 1928 came to Yarrow, B. C. We lived in the Abbotsford district for many years, moved to Matsqui for some time, and finally the last years again in Abbotsford.

Approximately six months ago father experienced severe pain in his stomach and after thorough examination it was diagnosed as cancer. He sought further medical help but primarily took his burden to the Lord. Many fellow Christians united with us in intercession for renewed health. However, father's prayer for health was always subject to the will of the Heavenly Father.

On March 17 he was taken to the hospital and was in severe pain for one week. The Lord saw fit to take him home on March 25 at 9:30 a. m. Thus his suffering was ended and his soul took its flight to the glories above, where his Redeemer was awaiting him with open arms. He reached the age of 57 years, two months and 19 days.

The sudden and early death of our beloved husband and father is very hard to bear. However our comfort is in the fact that our loving Lord makes no mistakes. He is with the Lord, where there are no more tears, no pain, no sorrow but rather eternal joy and bliss. We are willing to have him enjoy the blessed rest of the redeemed with the Lord. — His Sorrowing Wife and Children.
