JACOB F. LOEWEN
Father Jacob F. Loewen was born January 19, 1884, near the village of Mountain Lake, Minnesota, Cottonwood county and lived in the Mountain Lake community throughout his life. He received his education in the Mountain Lake public and Bible schools.
In 1904 he was baptized upon his confession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ by Rev. Heinrich Quiring and received into what is now the Gospel Mennonite church, of which he remained a faithful member until his departure.
On September 30, 1906, he was married to Miss Helena Dick with whom he shared life's joys and sorrows for 44 years, three months and 14 days. They settled on a farm two and one-half miles West of Mountain Lake in Carson township and farmed there until they retired to Mountain Lake in 1942.
The morning of December 26, 1950, he suddenly took sick with an heart ailment and the next day he was taken to the Bethel hospital for medical care and rest. There he seemingly gained some strength for a while, but only of short duration. On January 14 at 1:40 p. m. after much suffering, he passed away. He expressed his faith in the Lord as his Saviour and his willingness to leave all in the Lord's hands. He attained the age of 66 years, 11 months, and 25 days.
He served during his lifetime as a respected citizen, as a teacher, in Sunday school, church work, and in many boards. At the time of his passing he was a member of the church Board of Trustees
He leaves to mourn him his sorrowing wife and the following children: Abram, Linda (Mrs. P. W Nickel), Jacob, Harry, Marie (Mrs. Ben Heide), all of Mountain Lake; Laura, (Mrs. Francis Saeger), Bemidji, Minn., Leona, (Mrs. David Dick) of Mountain Lake, and Frieda, (Mrs. John Wilmoth) of Minneapolis, Minn. Esther, Alma, and Helen preceded him in death.
He leaves five sons-in-law and three daughters-in-law, and eleven grandchildren. He also leaves three brothers, Frank, Nick, and John Loewen of Mountain Lake; five sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law; two half sisters, Mrs. Henry J. Brown, and Miss Aganetha Loewen; two half brothers, David and Peter Loewen, and a host of other relatives and friends. All children are privileged to be present. — The Family.
