Henry I. Loewen was born October 13, 1852 at Pordenau, S. Russia. He accompanied his parents, Isaac Loewen to this country in 1875, settling on a farm 5 miles northwest of this village. In 1889 he was united in marriage with Miss Aganetha Quiring. This union was broken thru the death of Mrs. Loewen in 1896. Eight years later Mr. Loewen and Miss Mary Dick were united in marriage; but in 1916 his second wife was taken from him thru death. In the two uions [sic] he became the father of nine children; of these four preceded him in death. Of the 23 grandchildren three have preceded him.
During the first years of his married life he lived on a farm 2 miles north of Bingham Lake. In March 1913 he moved to Chinook, Mont. Here he lived 13 years. Three and a half years ago he moved as widower with his children to Mt. Lake. During the last year and nine months he shared the home of D. D. Enns; his daughter Katherine took care of him there. He complained of weakness the last month of his life having been sickly for some time and one day and one night he was seriously sick. Death came at 1:20 A. M. on Sunday, Jan. 5. He reached an age of 77 years. Funeral services were conducted at the Valley church yesterday afternoon of which he was a member for many years. The speaker son the funeral were Rev's. J. N. Wall, A. J. Wiebe and D. A. Regier. The choir rendered some songs. — Mt. Lake View.
