AGNES PENNER LOEWEN

Agnes Penner Loewen was born March 7, 1888, near Hillsboro, Kan. to Jacob J. and Maria Schale [sic Schoel] Penner. She attended the Cresswell Rural School south of Hillsboro.

In 1901, at the age of 13, she made a personal commitment to Christ as her personal Saviour, and was baptized and received into the membership of the Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church. Her membership was transferred to the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church in 1939, when the family moved from the farm to the city of Hillsboro.

On May 14, 1908, she was united in holy matrimony to Henry L. Loewn. This union was blessed with five daughters. Ours was a happy marriage and it was our joy to celebrate our golden wedding anniversary in the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church in 1958.

Our mother lived in the Hillsboro community all her life except for a ten-year period when we resided in Tulsa County, Oklahoma.

Mother dearly loved the Lord and served Him in various capacities in the local church, as Sunday school teacher, in the Missionary Sewing Circle and relief work, and in more recent years as secretary-treasurer of her Sunday school class. She was a God-fearing and praying mother, and among our recollections of her, her great concern for her family will be outstanding. Truly we can say that our mother's prayers have followed us.

She suffered a heart attack in 1958, and never regained her health after that. During the past two years she was confined to a wheel chair and had been a patient in the Salem Hospital since Nov. 28, 1964.

She suffered a stroke on July 20. This was followed by complications, and on July 26, 1965, she quietly passed from this life into the presence of the Lord, reaching the age of 77 years, four months and 19 days.

She is survived by her husband; five daughters; Orpha (Mrs. Herbert Reimer) of Harlington, Texas, Ruth Loewen of Omaha, Nebr., Esther (Mrs. Curt Vogt) of Hillsboro, Kan., Rosena (Mrs. harold Warkentin) of Lincoln, Nebr., and Rosella (Mrs. Edward Schellenberg) of Omaha, Nebr.; three sisters, Mrs. J. L. Wiens of Reedley, Calif., Mrs. P. L. Loewen and Mrs. J. P. Nickel, both of Hillsboro; 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. — The Family.
