Well-Known Steinbach Business Man Dies

Steinbach, Man. — Funeral services for A. T. Loewen, 76, widely known retired funeral director of Steinbach, were hold Jan. 29 at the Steinbach E.M.B. Church. He died here Jan. 26 after an extended illness.

A native of this community, Mr. Loewen went to Jansen, Neb. as a young man to seek employment. He was married there in 1916 to Helena Ratzlaff. While in Nebraska he also learned embalming. The family returned here in 1930 and within a short time he launched the funeral business.

During his career Mr. Loewen conducted over 2,000 funerals in 125 different church buildings in Southern Manitoba. He sold the business to his sons, Bob and Roy, in 1962.

He was one of the founders of the Steinbach Christian Playground Assn. and also helped organize the Steinbach Union Credit Society in 1941, serving in various offices including that of president.

His first wife died in 1937. Surviving are his second wife Elizabeth; nine sons, three daughters, and one foster daughter; and 25 grandchildren. Henry Loewen of McPherson, Kan. and Mrs. Johnny L. Reimer of Meade, Kan. are among the surviving children
