JOHN LITWILLER

John Litwiller, son of Jacob and Elizabeth (Buerge) Litwiller, was born August 12, 1873, near Reed city, Mich., and passed away June 8, 1957, at the age of 83 years, nine months and 26 days.

When seven years of age he with his parents moved to a farm near St. Johns, Mich. where he grew to manhood. On Easter Sunday, April 5, 1896, he was married to Miss Anna Iutzi of Newark Township, to which place they moved one year later. In 1900 they moved to New Haven Township where he spent the remainder of his life. On April 5 they observed their 61st wedding anniversary.

When but a young man he accepted Christ as his personal Saviour and became a baptized member of the Church of God in Christ (Mennonite) in which faith he lived and died. The Bible, Christian literature and church history became the greatest interests of his life, especially in his last years.

For the last seven months he was bedfast most of the time, patiently enduring much suffering, and sometimes expressing a desire to depart this life and be present with the Lord.

He was a deply [sic] devoted husband and father and a kind neighbor, one who ever manifested a spiritual concern for those about him.

He leaves three sons and three daughters: Mrs. Bessie Mastre of Galva, Kansas, Edith, at home, who tenderly cared for him during his illness, Glenn, Gladwin and Emerson, all of rural Middleton and Ruby, Mrs. Alonzo Wesenburg of rural Ithaca. He also leaves one son-in-law, three daughters-in-law, 26 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. A. R. Peters of Newark, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were two daughters, Edna and Mabel, who both died in infancy, one daughter-in-law, one son-in-law, his parents, two brothers, four sisters and two grandchildren.
