JACOB LINSCHEID. JR.

Jacob Linscheid, Jr., son of Jacob and Maria (Ewy) Linscheid, Sr., was born at Neuhof, Galicia, Austria on March 2, 1869. He immigrated to America with his parents in 1881 and settled on a homestead one and three-fourths miles nothwest [sic] of Butterfield, Minnesota. He received some elementary school training at Podusilna, Galicia, Austria and at Mountain Lake, Minnesota.

He was baptized by Elder Daniel Brubacher on May 30, 1887 upon the confession of his personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord, whom he loved and served in many ways. He was received into membership of the Menno Simons church at Butterfield. He took active part in church and kingdom service and supported it faithfully.

On November 15, 1891, he was united in holy matrimony to Mathilda Ewy, with whom he shared many joys and sorrows. They lived on a farm close to his parental place. This union was blessed with 10 children: Mary (Mrs. Peter P. Franz) of Mountain Lake, Minnesota; Charlotte (Mrs. R. D. Claypool) of Hopkins, Minnesota; Frieda and Albert of Butterfield; Theodora (Mrs. Ed. A. Rodekuhr) of Deer Creek, Minnesota; Louis of Freeman, South Dakota; Selma (Mrs. Harvey Nelson) of Ulen, Minnesota; Emma of Lincoln, Nebraska, Ella (Mrs. Henry Hunstad) of Butterfield and one son, who died in infancy. They moved to Butterfield in 1920 and lived there until sorrow entered the home when mother was called to rest on December 31, 1936. After this Frieda largely took over the household duties and lovingly cared for father until his departure.

Father began to be ill about five months ago, suffering from heart trouble. He was not confined to bed until about the last three weeks of his life when his suffering also became greater. He never complained about his suffering but thanked God so often for His grace and His mercies. He was conscious and very keen in thought up to the last three hours after which he quietly and peacefully slipped away to his heavenly mansion at 10 minutes past nine o'clock in the evening of July 20, 1950.

The cause of his death was heart ailment. He attained the good old age of 81 years, 4 months, and 18 days. He leaves to mourn his departure his nine children; four bothers [sic], Gust, Theodore and Peter of Butterfield and Henry of Corona, California: three sisters, Mary (Mrs. Richard March) of Slayton, Minnesota; Kathryn (Mrs. Arthur Johnson) of Danube, Minnesota and Elizabeth (Mrs. Elizabeth Friesen) of Los Angles, California; five sons-in-law, two daughters-in law; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren besides many relatives and friends.

Father's deep heart’s desire which he expressed frequently before passing as also in life was that all his kin might come to know the Lord, and that his final suffering and death might be to the honor and glory of God. — The Children.
