Nation Sympathizes As Famous Child is Found Dead.

The American sense of justice received another challenge last Thursday, May 13, when it was discovered that the kidnaped Lindbergh baby was dead, evidently murdered by its kidnapers. The decomposed body of the child was found by mere chance in a thicket about five miles from the Lindbergh home. A negro passing on the road nearby happened to discover the little body covered with leaves as he stopped at the roadside. This ends a world-wide search for the famous child which was taken from its home in the night of March 1.

The body of the infant was cremated and put to its final resting place with only its father and several attendants present. Since then a relentless search has been begun with an endeavor to bring the murderers to justice and reestablish American self-respect and national honor.

As President Hoover in Washington was ordering the federal law enforcement agencies to begin unending pursuit of the slayers, state and county officials gathered in Trenton to plan concerted action to apprehend the criminals.

District Attorney Erwin Marshall, who will have jurisdiction because the body was found in Mercer county, although the kidnaping occurred in Hunterdon county, indicated that an arrest might be expected though it might not be for several days.
