Norman Arthur Lind was born Jan. 15, 1881, near Wadsworth, Ohio, to Jacob L. and Margaret (Zeigler) Lind, and departed this life at the Mennonite Home for the Aged near Albany, Ore., July 31, 1968, aged 87 years, six months and 16 days. He was the fourth of five children and was the last member of the family to depart this life.

As a child he was a sickly lad and because of this he missed many months of school, especially in the upper elementary years. This discouraged him to the point that he never finished his elementary education. Later, about the turn of the century, he attended several terms at the Elkhart Bible Institute.

At the age of 14 he accepted Jesus as his personal Savior and united with the Bethel Mennonite Church near Wadsworth. He was a member of the Sweet Home (Ore.) Congregation at the time of his death. In October 1903 he was ordained to the ministry at the Bethel Church. In June 1921 he was ordained to the office of bishop at the Albany (Ore.) Mennonite Church. He was called into evangelistic service many times through the years of his ministry and often helped in Bible Conference work.

On Nov. 22, 1904, Bro Lind was united in marriage with Sarah Flohr, who preceded him in death in January 1963. To this union nine sons were born, two having died in infancy. Surviving are Lloyd L. and Marcus F. of Salem, Ore. Irvan [sic Ivan] R., Hesston, Kan., Norman A. Jr., Lebanon, Millard C., Goshen, Ind., Gilbert H., Thurman, Colo., and Wilbert G., Akron, Pa. Also surviving are 39 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Early years of married life were spent on the farm near Wadsworth. In 1918, because of the failing health of Sis. Lind, they sold the farm and moved west. Nearly a year was spent in Bakersfield, Calif., prior to moving to Linn County, Ore., where the family resided in the Albany, Tangent and Sweet Home communities.

Services were held Saturday, Aug. 3, at the Fairview Mennonite Church near Albany, with Brethren Orie L. Roth and Raymond Mishler officiating. Burial was in the family plot at Willamette Memorial Park near Albany.
