Former Hesston Dean, Bible Teacher Dies
Word has been received here that Dr. Ivan R. Lind, 60, former dean and long-time faculty member at Hesston College, died of an apparent heart attack Friday, Nov. 20, at Harrisonburg, Va.
The funeral was to be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Eastern Mennonite College Chapel, with burial in Weavers Church Cemetery.
Dr. Lind left Hesston last year to join the faculty of Eastern Mennonite College as Associate Professor of Old Testament. He first joined the Hesston faculty in 1938, and in 1941 began a seven-year term as academic dean. He was pastor of the Hesston Mennonite Church for six years while also serving on the college faculty.
He was pastor of the Beth-El Mennonite Church at Milford, Neb. from 1958 to 1965, when he returned to the Hesston faculty. During his years at Hesston he taught in the fields of Bible, sociology, psychology, economics and business education.
A graduate of Goshen College, Dr. Lind held the B.D. degree from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary, the M.A. from the University of Iowa, and Ph.D. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth.
Surviving in the immediate family are his widow, the former Ethel Marie Ebersole, and four sons, Kermit of Cleveland, O., Gerald of Sarasota, Fla., Donald of Atlanta, Ga., and Ralph, in Pax service in the Congo.
