Former UN Secretary Dies at Age 72

Trygve H. Lie, 72, first secretary-general of the United Nations, died last Monday of a heart attack at a Norwegian hunting lodge.

Lie received his U. N. appointment in 1946, after having participated in drafting the U. N. Charter in San Francisco in 1945. During his eight years in office, Lie was able to preserve the U. N. despite the cold war.
