PAUL LI

Paul Li of Vancouver, the pastor of the Chinese extension of the Pacific Grace Mission Chapel, passed away on May 2 after a brief illness. He was born on May 24, 1943 in Nan Hai, Kwangtung, China, to Mr. and Mrs. Pak Ping and Au Sui Fun Li. At the age of five, he moved with his parents to Hong Kong.

Paul received Christ as his Saviour as a young teenager and followed the Lord in baptism in April, 1961 and became a member of the Chinese Holiness Church. He received his secular training in Hong Kong and then came to the Canadian Bible College, Regina, in 1969 for Bible training. He continued those studies at the Northwest Baptist Theological College, Vancouver, graduating with a BTh. After graduation, he accepted a call from the B.C. Mennonite Brethren Board of Church Extension and Pacific Grace Chapel to begin an extension ministry to Chinese people. He began this service in May, 1972. Together with his wife, Greta, he began a ministry which grew as homes were visited, Sunday school was built up and worship services were started.

Paul first became ill in May, 1974. However, God marvellously restored him and he could continue his ministry. As eldest son in his family, he worked hard for his parents also, helping provide for their support in Hong Kong and attempting to make it possible for them to immigrate to Canada. He became ill again on May I, during a 'move to another home, and passed into the presence of the Lord on May 2.

He is survived by his wife, Greta; infant son, Timothy; his parents, one brother and five sisters in Hong Kong; two brothers in Vancouver; as well as parents, two brothers and a sister in Hong Kong and two brothers in Vancouver on his wife's side.

The funeral was at the Culloden Mennonite Brethren Church, Vancouver, on May 6, with Rev. David Poon and Rev. Nick Dyck ministering. Rev. H. G. Classen and Mr. Ko read the obituaries in English and Chinese. Interment was in North Burnaby.
