HENRY LETKEMANN

Henry Letkemann of Thompson, Man., beloved husband of Lynn, and father of Darrell Rodney, aged eight, and Debra Ellen, aged five, was accidentally drowned on a fishing trip on May 31. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. John Harder of Columbus, Ohio, assisted by local ministers, in the St. Lawrence Church on June 5. Interment followed at Winkler, Manitoba, on June 7. Earlier, a Memorial Service had been held in the R. D. Parker Collegiate conducted by the Thompson Religious Council and assisted by members of the school board, teaching staff and student body.

Mr. Letkemann was born at Roseile, Manitoba in 1931. He received the degree of Master of Education at the University of Manitoba. He was honoured with a Centennial Medal and recently received a Dome Petroleum Fellowship for educational research. He was married to Lynn Block on August 30, 1958.

During his seven years in Thompson, he made an outstanding contribution to the development of the community's educational system as teacher, principal and superintendent of schools. He was recognized throughout Manitoba for initiating modern concepts of education both in school designs and methods of instruction. He gave dedicated Christian leadership to his own church and to the entire community. The Thompson Mennonite Church and the community mourn his passing with a deep sense of loss.
