Newton relatives and friends were grief stricken Saturday at the report that Dr. Melvern Krehbiel Leisy, 43, and sons Derek, 13, and Kurt, 11, were killed in a plane crash at Newport Beach, Calif.

Dr. Leisy and sons of El Monte, Calif., together with five others, were in a twin-engine Beechcraft plane heading for a Decoration Day weekend at Baja California, Mexico. Dr. Leisy, who was at the controls, had the reputation of being a skilled and careful pilot.

The plane encountered trouble only six minutes after takeoff at Orange County airport, hit a gully and burned on impact, killing all occupants instantly.

Dr. Leisy was the son of Dr. and Mrs. E. E. Leisy of Dallas, Texas, and a grandson of the late Rev. H. P. Krehbiel, former Review editor and founder of the Herald Publishing Co.

Mrs. E. E. Leisy and daughter Margaret of Kansas City flew to California to attend the funeral services, which were held on Wednesday. James Leisy, a brother was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Doctor, Sons, Among Plane Crash Victims

Newton relatives and friends were grief stricken Saturday at the report that Dr. Melvern Krehbiel Leisy, 43, and sons Derek, 13, and Kurt, 11, were killed in a plane crash at Newport Beach, Calif.

Dr. Leisy and sons of El Monte, Calif., together with five others, were in a twin-engine Beechcraft plane heading for a Decoration Day weekend at Baja California, Mexico. Dr. Leisy, who was at the controls, had the reputation of being a skilled and careful pilot.
