English Professor Dies at Dallas, Tex.

Dr. Ernest E. Leisy, 80, professor emeritus of English at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas and former English teacher at Bethel College, died March 8 in Dallas.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Highland Park Methodist Church in Dallas. The body was returned here, and a service was conducted Monday afternoon at the Halstead Mausoleum by Rev. Russel L. Mast, pastor of the Bethel College Mennonite Church, of which Dr. Leisy was a member.

A native of Moundridge, Dr. Leisy attended Bethel Academy and Bethel College. He received the A.B. degree from the University of Kansas, the Master's degree from the University of Chicago, and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Illinois. He served on the Bethel faculty from 1914 to 1918, and joined the Southern Methodist faculty in 1927.

Dr. Leisy was a member of professional and honorary societies and wrote extensively in the field of American literature.

Surviving are his widow, the former Elva Krehbiel; one son, James F. of Portola Valley, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. J.F. Steineger of Kansas City, Mo.; nine brothers and sisters, and seven grandchildren.
