BERTHA ELVINA LEISY

Bertha Elvina Leisy, widow of the late Rev. Homer Leisy, was born March 18, 1896, at Pratum, Ore. and died Feb. 22, 1951, at the Bartell hospital at Dallas, Ore. Although she had not been in excellent health for some time due to asthma, death was very unexpected and due to a cerebral hemorrhage.

She was baptized and joined the Emmanuel Mennonite church at Pratum in 1920. She remained a faithful member of this church until she and her husband took up the pastorate of the Grace Mennonite church at Dallas, Ore. in 1939 at which time they transferred their membership. She continued to be an active member of the Grace church after her husband’s death. At the time of her death she was the district adviser for the Pacific District Conference Missionary Society.

In 1916 Bertha Roth was united in marriage to Homer Carl Leisy. To this union, three daughters were born—Leona, Dorothy and Bette. Dorothy was called home on July 30, 1946. Rev. Leisy passed away June 10, 1948. Mrs. Leisy’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Roth, Sr., also preceded her in death.

Surviving her are the two daughters, Mrs. Homer (Leona) Welty of Salem, and Mrs. Vernon (Bette) Dyke of Dallas; five grandchildren, Adele, Ann, Cleone, Marilyn and Ronald Welty; four sisters, Mrs. Ida Herr of Silverton, Mrs. E. A. Leisy of Portland and Mrs. Charles Smith and Mrs. Robert L. Elfstrom of Salem; and four brothers, W. A. Roth, John Roth, Henry Roth and Ernest Roth, all of Salem.

Funeral services were held at the Grace Mennonite church at Dallas on Feb. 24 with Rev. J. J. Regier officiating. Music was furnished by the young men’s quartet from the Emmanuel Mennonite church at Pratum. Interment was in the Pratum cemetery.
