Young Man Awaiting Kidney Transplant Dies of Heart Attack

Marion, Pa. — Twenty-one-year-old Dennis Lehman of this place who was awaiting a kidney transplant, died unexpectedly of a heart attack Sunday evening, July 25.

The young man had had both kidneys removed several months ago, and made twice weekly trips to Harrisburg where a dialysis machine performed the work of his kidneys. Recently his sister Julia had spent part of a week at Richmond, Va. taking medical tests which indicated that she would be a suitable donor of a kidney for the transplant surgery.

The Marion Mennonite Church, the community and various organizations had raised a substantial fund to help defray the costs of the anticipated transplant surgery. The family was very grateful for this help.

The largely attended funeral services were held July 29 at the Marion Church, of which the young man was a member. Burial was made in the Chambersburg Mennonite Cemetery. Merle Cordell and Bishop Elam Stauffer of Lancaster County officiated.

Surviving Dennis are his wife, the former Ann Moseman of Lancaster County, whom he married less than a year ago, his parents and two younger brothers.
