OSCAR C. LATSCHAR

Oscar C. Latschar, son of Jacob P. and Mary Eyman Latschar, was born Dec. 10, 1888, in Harvey County, Kansas. Following more than a year of suffering with a heart ailment, he passed away early Thursday morning, Oct. 9, 1958, at his home in Manhattan, Kansas to be with Jesus his Saviour.

In his youth he was baptized by Rev. Galle in the West Zion Mennonite church, Moundridge, Kan. At his death, he was a member of the Blue Valley Memorial Methodist church at Manhattan, Kan. His favorite passage of Scripture was the 23rd Psalm, and his favorite hymns were “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and “dort uber jenem Sternen-Meer, Dort ist ein schones Land.” He was laid to rest in the West Zion Mennonite Church cemetery at Moundridge, near the resting place of his father, mother, brother, and sister.

Oscar, with his father and brother, moved from Harvey County to Meade County in 1906. Oscar C. Latschar and Margaret Warkentin were united in marriage Feb. 5, 1911. Five children blessed this home, one daughter preceding him in death in infancy. He and his family farmed near Meade, Kansas until 1938 when they moved to Manhattan, Kansas where he worked as a carpenter.

He leaves his wife, Margaret, one daughter, three sons, one son-in-law, three daughters-in-law, and 19 grandchildren. His children are: Arnold M. of Manhattan, Edna (Mrs. D. E. Jenkins) of Bunker Hill, Kansas, Milton E. of Cartersville, Georgia, and Carl E. of Waynesboro, Virginia.

He had many friends and a smile for everyone. We mourn but hope to be reunited when the Lord calls. — The Family.
