Aged Minister Laid to Rest at Berne, Ind.

At Berne, Ind., Rev. Eli Lantz, a retired minister of the Defenseless Mennonite church, passed away on April 9 after a prolonged illness. Rev. Lantz was 77 years old and was widely known in eastern Mennonite circles.

The Berne Review gives the following details of funeral services which were held April 11:

Funeral services were held for Rev. Eli Lantz, 77, retired minister, at the local Mennonite church Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, with many paying their final respects. Rev. Noah Smucker, pastor of the Defenseless Mennonite church, officiated and burial was made in the Defenseless Mennonite cemetery, west of Berne. A brief service was held at the home west of Berne prior to the local rites.

The deceased was born in Pettisville, Ohio, November 27, 1859, a son of Levi and Fanny Lantz. He had resided in Adams county for 32 years. Rev. Lantz served as pastor of the Defenseless Mennonite church, west of Berne, for 21 years, retiring 10 years ago.
