ALBERT C. LANDIS

Albert C. Landis, long time resident of Upland, Calif. and a member of the First Mennonite church, died Monday, Oct. 17, at 6:30 p. m. in the San Antonio hospital.

He was born in Halstead, Kan. 59 years ago and had lived in Upland 35 years. He was a mechanic in a lemon packing house for a number of years but three years ago it became necessary for him to retire because of a heart lesion. However after a long period of hospitalization and a stay in a rest home he was able to return to his home and even resume some light work. Another heart seizure last week resulted in a few days at the hospital and on Monday, Oct. 17, while his bro- [sic] was at his bedside his soul was released and he went to his heavenly home.

In the passing of Albert Landis the community has lost a valuable citizen and the church has also suffered a distinct loss. He loved youth, enjoyed working with the young people and was very active in C. E. and Sunday school as long as health permitted.

Survivors are his widow, Pearl Landis; one son, Merril; two granddaughters; an aged mother and six brothers. Because of health conditions and distance the mother and five brothers were unable to attend the funeral.

Services were conducted in our church with Rev. Paul Goering officiating. The large attendance and the profusion of flowers were evidence of the high esteem in which he was held. Many employees from the packing house took time out to attend the funeral and pay respect to their departed friend. The pall bearers were also men from the packing house.

Burial was in the Bellevue Cemetery, Ontario, Calif.
