REBECCA CULP KURTZ

Rebecca Culp Kurtz, daughter of Christian and Christina (Good) Culp, was born on July 23, 1881, in Elida, Ohio, died Jan. 3, 1970, age 88 years and six months.

On Dec. 27, 1906, she was married to Samuel David Kurtz, who preceded her in death in February 1946. To this union were born four sons, two of whom preceded her in death in infancy.

Surviving are Irvin C. Kurtz of Smithville, Ohio and Christian S. Kurtz of Chesapeake, Va.; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Hartzler of Marshallville, Ohio and Mrs. Ada Berry of Sylvania, Ohio; 10 nieces and 16 nephews.

Rebecca became a Christian at an early age. She was one of the charter members of the Mt. Pleasant Mennonite Church of Chesapeake, Va. and was the first sewing circle president. The circle sewed for the Red Cross during World War I.

Soon after the death of her husband, Rebecca worked in the Rittman Mennonite Home for eight years as assistant cook.

Funeral services were held Jan. 7, 1970 in the Mt. Pleasant Church with Amos D. Wenger and Philip Miller officiating. Burial was made in the church cemetery.
