Verlin V. Kuhns, 74, of La Junta, Colo., died Oct. 22, 2000, at Parkview Hospital in Pueblo. He was born July 24, 1926, to Joseph and Emma Kuhns at Shickley, Neb.
He attended schools in Shickley and graduated from Hesston (Kan.) College. He and his wife, Alma, were married Dec. 10, 1948, at Protection, Kan. A longtime resident of La Junta, he retired from the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center as a purchasing director in 1989.
He was active in volunteer work. He was a former board chairman and camp advocate with the Rocky Mountain Mennonite Camp. He was a member of the Gideons and an active volunteer and former board chair of Crossroads Gift and Thrift. He was a Key Man of the Koshares and an active member of Emmanuel Mennonite Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher, elder, church chairman and music leader.
Survivors include his wife, Alma; a son, Bruce and his wife Paula of Harrisonburg Va.; a daughter, Julie Stutzman of Washington, Iowa; three grandchildren; two brothers, Dean and Ray, both of Lincoln, Neb.; three sisters, Joan Troyer of Corry, Pa., Helen Eichelberger of Filer, Idaho, and Lois Saltzman of Henderson, Neb. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Harold, Elbert, Don and Kenneth; and a sister, Irene Oswald.
Services were held at Emmanuel Mennonite Church.
