— Miss Clara L. Kuehny, 81, who was a missionary nurse and teacher in India from 1921 to 1937, died at the Bethel Deaconess hospital Friday evening, July 31. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Sister Frieda Memorial Chapel, Rev. Arnold Epp officiating. In addition to her service in India, Miss Kuehny engaged in private nursing in this country for a number of years. She entered the Bethel Home for Aged in 1951, assisting with nursing duties during her first years in the Home.

MISS CLARA LYDIA KUEHNY

Clara Lydia Kuehny was born at Halstead, Kan. on Feb. 7, 1878, the daughter of John and Magdalene Kuehny. She passed away July 31, having reached the age of 81 years, five months and 24days.

She became a member of the Halstead Mennonite Church, where she retained her membership until coming to the Bethel Home for the Aged, at which time she transferred her membership to the First Mennonite church of Newton.

She attended district school near the family home. Following this she attended Bethel College, graduating from the academy in 1903. Later she attended nursing school in Cincinnati, from which she graduated and then did graduate work in nursing in New York City. Then followed some years of private nursing in Wichita.

The years 1921 to 1937 she spent as a missionary nurse in India under the General Conference Mennonite Board of Missions. Following her return from India, she spent some years as a private nurse in St. Louis.

In 1951 she entered the Bethel Home for the Aged, where she assisted with nursing duties for several years before becoming inactive.

Surviving her is a brother, Albert P. Kuehny of Seattle, Wash., some nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. her life was spe2nt in service to others and her God.
