• Funeral services for Peter E. Kroeker, 78, of Inman were held Nov. 21 at the Bethel Mennonite Church south of Inman with Rev. Paul Isaak, the pastor, and Rev. D. C. Pauls officiating. Mr. Kroeker died Nov. 19 at Northview Manor, McPherson. Surviving are his widow, Sarah, a resident of the Pleasantview home at Inman; two sons, Eldo of Hutchinson and John W. of Inman; two daughters, Mrs. John R. (Amanda) Neufeld of Inman and Mrs. Edwin J. (Ella) Regier of Route 4, Newton; six brothers, one sister, 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

PETER E. KROEKER

Peter E. Kroeker was born Sept. 6, 1896, on a farm northwest of Buhler, Kan. to Rev. Klaas and Margaretha Esau Kroeker. He was the second son in a family of seven sons and one daughter. He attended the Sunrise Grade School for seven years. In 1917 he graduated from the Hoffnungsau Preparatory School east of Inman.

On Sept. 26, 1915, he was baptized by Elder Klaas Kroeker, his father, and received into the Bethel Mennonite Church of Inman where he remained a faithful member until his death.

On Sept. 5, 1920, dad was married to our mother, Sara T. Wiens, at the Bethel Church. to this union were born five children, of whom the first-born, Ernest, died in infancy.

Dad farmed south of Inman most of his life. During the early part of their married life they moved to Perryton, Texas. Times were difficult there and they soon moved back to Inman. In 1935 the family moved to Dallas, Ore. to live near mother's sister, Mrs. H. W. Ediger, for a year.

In the summer of 1962 he retired from the farm and he and mother moved to Inman, where they lived until a few months ago. After retiring from the farm Dad and Jake Thiessen did much repair and carpentry work around the Inman and Buhler communities. After breaking his hip in 1971 he slowed down somewhat with his carpentry work. About two years ago he started working in Ike's Grocery Store. This gave him many opportunities to meet and visit with friends.

On Sept. 5, 1970 our parents celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

Dad was a generous person and enjoyed much the sharing of material blessings the Lord gave them. Even when times were financially difficult for us as a family, he always thought first of the needs of the Lord's work in the church.

On July 5, 1974, he suffered a severe stroke from which he never fully recovered. He was hospitalized in the Moundridge and Hutchinson hospitals until the beginning of September when he was moved to the McPherson Northview Manor Nursing Home. On Nov. 19 he suffered a massive stroke and went to be with the Lord. He reached the age of 78.

He leaves to mourn his wife; four children, Ella and husband Edwin J. Regier of Newton, Amanda and husband John R. Neufeld of Inman, Eldo and wife Grace of Hutchinson, and John W. and wife Donna of Inman; 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; six brothers, Abe, Klaas and wife Agnes, Jake and wife Annie, Martin and wife Marie, George and wife Justina, all of Inman, and Henry and wife Marie of Pretty Prairie: one sister, Helen and husband Jake T. Wiens, of Salem, Ore.

Funeral services were held at the Bethel Mennonite Church on Nov. 21 with Rev. Paul Isaak and Rev. D. C. Pauls officiating. Burial was in the South Inman Cemetery. — The Children.
