Text of obituary:

KROEKER, JOHN DUECK, Hillsboro, Kan., was born June 12, 1906 to Peter B. and Elizabeth Dueck Kroeker in Steinbach, Man., and died Oct. 23, 1984 at the age of 78. At the age of 25 he accepted Jesus as his savior, was baptized that same year and joined the Steinbach Evangelical Mennonite Church. On May 20, 1932 he was married to Esther K. Reimer, who survives. He was a carpenter by trade, but despite a minimal formal education he was an avid reader and lifetime learner of various subjects, including astronomy, general science, politics and Mennonite history. After retiring as a carpenter in 1977, he and his wife moved to Hillsboro, where they joined the Hillsboro MB Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Raymond of St. Catherines, Ont., and Laverna, Eileen and Sylvia, all of Hillsboro; and several grandchildren.
