JACOB FRANK KROEKER

On Easter Monday morning, April 7, Jacob F. Kroeker of Virgil, Ont., was suddenly called home. He was born in the Crimea, Russia, on August 25, 1892, and reached the age of 76. At the age of 20 he was reborn into the family of God. His favorite verse was Psalm 86:11: "Teach me thy way, 0 Lord, I will walk in thy truth, unite my heart to fear thy name." On February 9, 1919, he entered marriage with Maria Sawatsky, also of the Crimea. In 1925 they emigrated to Canada and settled in Drake, Sask. The Lord gave them seven healthy children, all of whom survive and serve the Lord. In 1940 the family moved to Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont., and four years ago to Virgil. It was in the Virgil Mennonite Brethren Church that the children were taught and nourished in the things of the Lord.

He is survived by his wife, Maria; four sons, Jacob of Winkler, Man., Herman of Hamilton, Harry of St. Catharines, and Menno of Abbotsford, B.C.; three daughters, Mrs, Henry (Marie) Loewen of Leeburn, Ont., Mrs. Alvin (Vera) Voth of Medellin, Colombia, and Elsie of Durango, Mexico.

The funeral service was held in the Virgil Church on April 10 with many people present. Rev. J. G. Baerg had as his text 2 Cor. 5:1-10 and Rev. Gerhard Epp addressed the congregation in German using the same text. The family is grateful for 89 Gideon Bibles that were donated in their father's memory by friends.
