Well Known Business Man At Winkler, Man., Called Away in Death

J. A. KROEKER, ACTIVE IN MISSION WORK; MEMBER OF HOSPITAL BOARD

Winkler, Man. — One of the year's largest funerals, held in a tent erected especially for this purpose, was held here Saturday, Aug 4, when Jacob A. Kroeker, 67, widely known Winkler business man, was laid to his final earthly resting place.

Ministers participating in the funeral services were Rev. H. A. Voth, Rev. J. G. Wiens, Rev. A. A. Kroeker and Rev. D. D. Derksen.

Mr. Kroeker died at his home early Tuesday morning, July 31, after a stroke he had suffered a week before.

Mr. Kroeker was born at Winkler, and throughout his life had been active in social and religious affairs of his community. He was a member of the local school board for 20 years, and chairman of the local board of the children's welfare committee. He served as choirmaster of the Mennonite Brethren church, and for 36 year had been active in the city mission and foreign mission work of the North American Mennonite conference. For the past 25 year she had been a member of the hospital board and local Bible school.

Surviving are his wife, the former Annie Nickel, of Rosthern, Sask.; four sons, Jacob, Peter, Menno and Albert; four daughters, Mrs. G. H. Pries, Mrs. C. J. Funk and Luella, in Winkler, and Mrs. Henry Unruh, Kingston, Ont.; his mother, aged 90; two brothers, A. A. and P. A. Kroeker, Winkler farmers; three sisters Mrs.J. B. Dyck, Winkler,; Mrs. H. H. Neufeld, Winnipeg, and Miss Nettie Kroeker, Winkler; and 16 grandchildren.
