Mother of Goshen College Administrators Dies

Goshen, Ind. — Mrs. Adelia Stover Kreider, 76, wife of Lloyd S. Kreider of Wadsworth, Ohio, died at the Wadsworth hospital Aug. 17 after a six-week illness.

Mrs. Kreider was the mother of Dr. Carl Kreider, dean of Goshen College, and Rev. J. Robert Kreider, director of college relations at the college here. Also surviving in addition to her husband are two other sons, Dr. Leonard C. Kreider of Wadsworth and Don Kreider of Phoenix, Ariz.; one daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Ruth) Heatwole of Charlottesville, Va.; 22 grandchildren, one sister and one brother.

Funeral services were held at the Bethel Mennonite Church , Wadsworth, of which she was a member.

ADELIA KREIDER

Adelia May Kreider was born Dec. 2, 1887, and passed from this life on Aug. 17, 1964, at the age of 76. She was the second child and older daughter born to Levi and Maria (Kindig) Stover. She spent her girlhood years in Medina County, Ohio until her marriage on Nov. 26, 1908, to Lloyd S. Kreider, who survives her.

Except for one year in Texas, they made their home in Wadsworth, Ohio for 53 years. There they raised their family of four sons and one daughter: Leonard of Wadsworth; Carl of Goshen, Ind.; Don of Phoenix, Ariz.; Robert of Goshen; and Ruth (Mrs. Kenneth Heatwole) of Charlottesville, Va. She is also survived by one brother, Carl N. Stover of Akron, Ohio; one sister, Myrta Stover of Berea, Ohio, and 22 grandchildren. One brother, William K., preceded her in death.

In November, 1958, the Kreiders and the Ira Newcomers, who were married in a double ceremony 50 years before celebrated a double golden wedding anniversary. Her passing marks the first death in the two families.

Mother Kreider was a devoted Christian whose energies and interests centered particularly around her home, her neighborhood, and her church. In her Bible was found the notation that she accepted Christ on the evening of Feb. 25, 1901, and was baptized into Bethel Mennonite Church on April 27. She remained a faithful member until death and along with her husband gave generously of herself and her means to the causes of the church expectantly to missions and Christian education.

Rev. Aden Yoder, assisted by Rev. James Steiner, was in charge of funeral services, held at Bethel Church on Aug. 19. Six grandsons served as pall bearers, and interment was made in Woodlawn Cemetery in Wadsworth.
