Krehbiel, Moundridge. — Lena Anna Ledig-Krehbiel, Tochter von Louis und Elizabeth Vogt-Ledig, war geboren in Franklin Township, Lee Co., Ia., am 16. März 1864. Woselbst sie die Schule besuchte und zum Jungfrauenalter heranwuchs. Im Jahre 1877 wurde sie von Aelt. Christian Schowalter getauft und in die Zionsgemeinde aufgenommen.

Im Jahre 1887 trat sie in den Ehestand mit Jakob H. Krehbiel, der sie denn auch mitnahm nach Kansas, sich niederlassend auf einer Farm in Harvey County, nahe Moundridge. Hier schlossen sie sich der Mennonitenkirche “Christian” an, welche Mitgliedschaft mit der Organisierung der West Zion Gemeinde dorthin verlegt wurde, als Mitbegründer dieser Gemeinde. Schon seit Jahren war sie behaftet mit einem Herzleiden, die letzten 3 Jahre ganz Invalide. In ihrer Krankheit klagte sie nicht; sie hatte die Gnade, ihr Schicksal vertrauensvoll in Gottes Hand zu legen. Mit ihrem Gatten teilte sie 41 Jahre Freude und Leid. 5 Kinder wurden ihnen geboren, 2 Söhne und 3 Töchter. Friedlich und ruhig ist sie entschlafen am 1. Mai; sie hat ihr Alter gebracht auf 64 Jahre, 1 Monate und 15 Tage. Sie hinterläßt ihren trauernden Gatten, 2 Söhne, 3 Töchter, 1 Schwiegersohn, 1 Schwiegertöchter [sic], 2 Großkinder und viele Verwandte und Freunde, ihre Abscheiden zu betrauern. Begräbnis von der West Zion Kirche aus, am 3. Mai, wo Br. P. K. Regier, unterstützt von Rev. P. P. Wedel von der Nachbargemeinde, mit Worten des Trostes, dienten. Als Text diente Jes. 54, 10: “Es sollen wohl Berge weichen und Hügel hinfallen, aber meine Gnade soll nicht von dir weichen, und der Bund meines Friedens soll nicht hinfallen, spricht der Herr, dein Erbarmer.”

Es war der Verstorbenen Wunsch, daß dieser Vers, der ihr so viel Trost im Leiden brachte, auch als Leichentext gebracht werde.

MRS. J. H. KREHBIEL OF MOUNDRIDGE DIES

The news were received here that Mrs. J. H. Krehbiel passed away quite suddenly at her home a few miles south of Moundridge Tuesday morning at 4:30 o'clock. Mrs. Krehbiel had not been well for a number of years, but lately her condition showed signs of apparent improvement, so that her death came as a surprise to all. At the present no funeral arrangements have been announced, other than that the services will be held at the West Zion church of Moundridge, of which church she has been a member. Rev. P. K. Regier, her pastor, will have charge of the services.

Lena Krehbiel

Lena Anna Ledig Krehbiel, daughter of Louis and Elisabeth Vogt Ledig, was born in Franklin Township, Lee County, Iowa, March 16, 1864. There she attended school and grew up to womanhood.

She was baptized on the confession of her faith Sept. 30, 1877 by Elder Christian Schowalter and became a member of the local Zion Church.

On Feb. 13, 1887, she was united in marriage to Jacob H. Krehbiel, and then came with her husband to Kansas, settling on a farm near Moundridge in Harvey County, Kansas. Together they joined the First Mennonite Church of Christian and alter when the West Zion Church was organized transferred her membership to this Church, of which she was a charter member.

For years she has been afflicted with heart trouble, and for the last three years and two and one half months she has been an invalid. In her sickness she never complained, and put it all in God's hands and was satisfied with the way in which he was leading her, trusting in the promise of God as found in Isaiah 54:10. She was an inspiration to her family and all who called upon her. Her grandchildren were an especial source of pleasure to her.

She lived with her husband over 41 years and shared with im joy and sorrow. To this union were born five children, two sons and three daughters: Sam A. and Alice A. at home, Mrs. Maude Friesen of Lehigh, Kansas, Herbert H. of Junction City, Kansas, and Leona G. instructor in Ramona, Kansas, High School.

She passed away quietly and peacefully on Tuesday, May 1st, at 4:30 in the morning, bringing her age to 64 years, 1 month and 15 days. She leaves to mourn her loss her bereaved husband, two sons, three daughters, one son-in-low [sic], one daughter-in-law, two grandchildren three brothers, two sisters, with their families, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 3, at the West Zion church, with her pastor, Rev. P. K. Regier, in charge.
