text of obituary:

THREE YEAR OLD SON FATALLY BURNED WHEN CAR CATCHES FIRE

Moundridge, Kans. — Funeral services were held at the First Mennonite church of Christian here Sunday afternoon, Oct. 4, for Kenneth James Krehbiel, three year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Herb. J. Krehbiel, who was fatally burned in a most unusual accident which happened on Thursday, Oct. 1.

The tragedy happened in the sand hills southwest of Moundridge, where Mr. Krehbiel had gone with his pickup to look after some cattle. As he went to see the cattle in the pasture he left little Kenneth in the cab of the ruck. When some distance away, Mr. Krehbiel looked around and saw the truck on fire. He ran back, snatched the boy from the fire and extinguished the blaze with sand and dirt.

[first part of sentence missing in original] . . . Mr. Krehbiel and his badly burned son to the Halstead hospital, where the lad passed away that same evening. Mr. Krehbiel also suffered serious burns on his arms. The cause of the fire remains a mystery.
